According to staff of Kent Black’s BBQ, the San Marcos location is planned to be open for business at the end of August, 2014.
I was able to take a quick glance at the almost-finished location and all I can say is: wow. First thing I noticed when I walked in were the three large, black pits behind the counter station. There are more outside, but the space they take up on the back wall lets customers know they mean business.
It’s going to have two open dining rooms, a nice bar area, plenty of seating room outside and plans for an outdoor stage area. Fans located around the outdoor area for those summer days, and room to get your dance on.
There are also great Black’s inspired murals on the various walls, great-looking repurposed wood that is being used for the walls. Honestly, the walls are my favorite part.
Kent Black is the pitmaster for the Lockhart location, but decided to branch out and open his own location in San Marcos. Located on Grove St. off of Guadalupe, this barbecue hideaway is close to the downtown square and other San Marcos treasures like, Cheatham Street Warehouse.
