Alamo Draft House Celebrates Brown Ales for October

Since we first told y’all about Alamo Draft House celebrating different styles of beer, the newest installment has been announced for October: Brown Ales.

Brown ales kind of died out, especially with the craft beer boom, what was once a very popular go-to beer, was suddenly 2nd and 3rd to stronger and hoppier beers. What do you do when you’re an American brewer who loves the brown ales of Britain but want them to sell in the US? You make them bigger, darker, stronger, hoppier and pretty much do whatever you want. Some American browns out there are almost on the verge of being porters, being brewed with of a lot of roasted malts. To be considered a good brown ale though you really want to focus on the caramel notes in your beer. Leave the roastiness for the porters! Big hopped brown IPAs, high ABV double brown ales, and even big Belgian dubbels are just a few styles that American brewers are reinventing and pushing over the edge. The American brown ale has almost become the new standard for this old style.- Alamo Draft House
