Growing up Jewish in Texas meant one thing for Joel Davis: Opening a Texas-style Kosher BBQ truck. Set to open mid-January, JoeBob’s BBQ will bring Texas-style Kosher BBQ to the Austin landscape. Davis said, “The basic thought behind this endeavor is that growing up in my household, like many Jewish households, food was love. And growing up as a Texan, BBQ was king. I’ve always wanted to connect the dots between my roots as a Texan and as a Jew.”
The smoke process will be low and slow and the beef (also GLATT kosher) will be prepared under strict kosher standards from the HKA. Davis says that at launch the staples of their menu will consist of brisket, chopped beef, beef ribs, beef sausage, smoked chicken, and beans. Additional items are planned to be added in the future, as well as various seasonal menu items.
To start, JoeBob’s will focus primarily on event service and catering, but plans to have walk-up service starting January 19th. There is a calendar on their website to see when that service will be available, and a pre-order menu will be available for anyone wanting to get in front of the line during walk-up service.
Serving food isn’t the entire plan for the project; giving back to charity is also part of the master plan. Davis says, “Each customer is able to determine which of the supported charities will receive the donation from their purchases. Currently, JoeBob’s BBQ is planning to support the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, The Jewish Federation of Greater Austin’s Annual Campaign, Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch , and the C Diff Foundation .
Looking forward to giving them a try. Let us know if you’ve had their bbq in the comment section below!
