TABC Now Offering Online Label Approval for Texas Alcohol Producers New method will speed up approval process

AUSTIN – As part of an effort to increase efficiency and improve user-friendliness for Texas brewers, brewpubs, wineries and distillers, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission now offers online label approvals through its website,

Before an alcoholic beverage can be marketed in Texas, its producer must first obtain a certificate of label approval for that beverage from the TABC. Previously, applicants had to apply for the certificate using a paper form through the mail. Now, with online approvals beginning June 1, those applicants will see a significant decrease in the amount of time it takes to obtain label approval.

“With the online system, we’re expecting to speed up the label approval process by several days,” said Thomas Graham, TABC Director of Marketing Practices and Excise Tax. “The online application is designed to make it easy as possible for applicants to include digital copies of their labels and other information with the application.”

The new system also allows applicants to pay online using a credit card or bank draft, Graham said.

Users of the new label approval system will first have to register for an online account prior to applying for a certificate. Graham said those accounts will keep the information of frequent applicants on file, speeding up the process for subsequent applications.

Though the online label approval process went live June 1, TABC will continue to accept paper applications through May of 2016.
